LAYLATUL QADR MORE VIRTUOUS THAN ONE THOUSAND MONTHS
26th of Ramadan, which will fall on the evening of Monday 16th March 2026. However, scholars of Hadith recommend focusing on the last 10 nights of Ramadan. Especially the odd nights, as it is most likely to have occurred in one of these nights based on the following Hadith:It was advised by the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) to:Ā
THE MERITS OF LAILATUāL QADR
Ashab Al-Kiram (the noble companions) were never happier for anything than they were hearing the third verse of Surah Al-Qadr that translates, āThe Night of Qadr is better than a thousand months.ā
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) told his Ashab about four people from the Children of Israel, who worshipped AllĆ¢h TaāĆ¢lĆ¢ for eighty years without disobeying Allah even with the blink of an eye. That amazed the Sabaha Al-Kiram immensely.
Upon this Jibrael Alayhis SalĆ¢m came down and said āO, Muhammad! Your ashab were amazed with those four men who worshipped AllĆ¢h TaāĆ¢lĆ¢ for eighty years without disobeying Him even with the blink of an eye. AllĆ¢h TaāĆ¢lĆ¢ sent you something better than their virtue.ā Then, he recited to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam, the whole Surah that reads āInna Anzalhu fi laylatil qadriā¦ā.Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and his companions were very happy with it.
WHAT TO DO ON THE NIGHT OF QADR
There is a four Rakāah Salah on this night to pray. Below is what to recite in each rakah:
First Rakāah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Qadr
Second Rakāah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Ikhlas
Third Rakāah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Qadr
Fourth Rakāah: Once Surah Al-Fatiha, 3 times Surah Al-Ikhlas
After Salah, one should read:
⢠Once āAllahu akbar Allahu akbar la ilaha illAllahu wAllahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamdā
⢠100 times Surah Al-InshirahĀ
⢠100 times Surah Al-Qadr
⢠100 times the Dua which Rasulullah SallĆ¢llahu Alayhi Wa Sallam taught Hadhrat Aisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) āAllumma innaka afuwwun karimun tuhibbul afwa faāfu anniā and Dua should be made afterwards.
One should also try to perform Salah Al-Tasbih.

SOME ATTRIBUTES OF THE NIGHT OF QADR
Allah SubhĆ¢nahu has made some of the things secret for many profound reasons. Allah SubhĆ¢nahu has hidden His pleasure in the prayers and obedience so that His servants show demand for all prayers and obedience. He has hidden His wrath in the sins so that people stay away from them, be it major or minor. He has hidden His Ismi Atham (Greatest Name) in the Qurāan al-Kareem so that all His names are revered. He has hidden Salaah al-Wusta (the middle prayer [Asr Salah]) in the five daily Salaah (prayers) so that all are preserved. He has hidden His friends (Awliya) so that people do not look down on anyone.Ā And He has hidden the Night of Qadr in the Month of Ramadhan al-Sharif so that Muslims regard every night of Ramadhan al-Sharif as the Night of Qadr and spend them in Ibadah.
Rasulullah SallallĆ¢hu Alayhi Wa Sallam has notified us of some of the signs of Laylat-ul Qadr: That night, the sky will be bright and cloudless. The weather will be neither hot nor cold, but soft. The sun will rise the next day without its glare. Laylat-ul Qadr is the night in which the Qurāan al-Kareem was revealed.
Prayers performed in this night are more valuable than prayers performed in a thousand months (which do not have Laylat-ul Qadr included). Nabi SallallĆ¢hu Alayhi Wa Sallam was shown the life spans of the past Ummahs (nations), and he found his Ummahās life span rather short. He supplicated to Allah, and thus, Allah Taāala bestowed upon him the Night of Qadr.
The angles and the Ruh descend on this night:
Because so many angels descend to witness the wonders of this night, it was called Qadr (overcrowded).
Nabi SallallĆ¢hu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: āWhen it is the Night of Qadr, Allah SubhĆ¢nahu orders Jibril (Alayhis Salaam) to go with other angels to raise a green banner over the Kaābah. On this night, Jibril (Alayhis Salaam) encourages the other angels to go around to greet people. They go to every person who is awake, praying or engaged in Dhikr to greet them, shake their hands and say āAmeenā to their prayers. This continues until sunrise.ā
This night is peace until dawn.
REVELATION OF THE NOBLE QURāAN IN THE MONTH OF RAMADHĆN
In Surah al-Baqarah Ayah 185, AllĆ¢h TaāĆ¢lĆ¢ says: āThe month of RamadhĆ¢n in which the Qurāan was revealed, a guidance for mankind, clear proofs of guidance and the criterion (distinguishing right from wrong). Therefore, whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast itā¦ā (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 185)
Even though the whole Qurāan was revealed gradually in twenty-three years, it is remarkable that the Ayah mentions it was revealed in the month of RamadhĆ¢n. This statement has three explanations:
1-) According to most Mufassirinās view (commentators of the Noble Qurāan), the Holy Qurāan was sent down in the sacred Night of Qadr to the lower heaven all at once, from there to the earth gradually in twenty-three years.
2-) The revelation of the Qurāan al-Karim from the lower heaven to our Prophet SallallĆ¢hu Alayhi Wa Sallam began in this Month. The first verse of Surah al-Alaq, āRead: In the name of your Rabb [Lord]ā¦.ā was revealed in the Cave of Hira, in the Month of Ramadhan Sharif on the Night of Qadr. The Cave of Hira, the heat of the month of RamadhĆ¢n and theĀ hardship of the night hosted the early rays of the Divine illumination. The grandeur and glory of Prophet SallallĆ¢hu Alayhi Wa Sallam reached the entire world through clear signs and miracles. For the pessimist, this Ayah of the Qurāan is conveying good news: āO you who have believed, seek help through patience and Salah. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.ā (Surah al-Baqarah, 153) Thus, there is a glad tiding and bliss for the pious spending many of their nights in humility, shedding tears in Allahās presence.
3-) The Month of RamadhĆ¢n in which the Holy Qurāan was revealed. In truth, there isnāt any other month beside RamadhĆ¢n Sharif that is explicitly mentioned in the Holy Qurāan as a way of divine praise.
Thus, Ramadhân Sharif is such a blessed month that even fasting was prescribed in it.
