Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Supplementary Education - Non-Religious Subjects)

Suleymaniye Community Association is a registered UK charity committed to supporting the educational, social, and cultural development of children, young people, and families in the local community. Operating from Suleymaniye Mosque in London, the Association runs a wide range of services including supplementary education programmes, youth development initiatives, and community outreach projects. Our supplementary school focuses on delivering non-religious subjects such as English, mathematics, and science, helping students achieve academic success in a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment.

Job Purpose

​

To support teachers and pupils in the delivery of non-religious academic subjects (such as mathematics, and science) within the Association’s supplementary school programme, helping to raise educational standards and promote inclusive learning environments for children and young people.

 

Key Responsibilities

​

•           Assist teachers in the planning and delivery of lessons across various subjects such as maths and science.

•           Provide individual and small-group support to pupils, including those with additional learning needs.

•           Prepare and organise classroom materials, resources, and learning aids as directed by the teacher.

•           Monitor and support pupils’ participation, engagement, and progress during class activities and homework support sessions.

•           Assist with classroom management and behaviour support under the direction of the teacher.

•           Support pupils in developing literacy, numeracy, and study skills through structured learning interventions.

•           Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities, such as educational trips, homework clubs, and revision sessions.

•           Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to the teacher and coordinator.

•           Ensure the safeguarding, health, and well-being of pupils in accordance with the organisation’s child protection policies.

•           Attend regular staff meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews.

Requirements

​

•           At least 3 years of experience working with school-age children in an educational or support setting.

•           Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds.

•           Understanding of safeguarding practices in education.

•           Experience working in a supplementary school, community learning centre, or youth education setting.

•           Experience in working within charity sector and charity setups.

•           Additional language skills (Turkish and Arabic).
